We are proud to announce that the Coral Beach Hotel & Resort has become a Gold Hospitality Sponsor of the Pafos 2017 European Capital of Culture.
The European Capital of Culture is the most important cultural institution of Europe and one of the most prestigious cultural events in the world. Τhe award of this title is a great tribute for any European city and country.
The theme of the Pafos 2017 programme is the Open Air Factory. Throughout the year, cultural events will take place under the open air. This will serve to connect spaces and people in Pafos and Cyprus, but also connect Pafos with the wider European and Mediterranean area through culture and art.
The Coral Beach Hotel & Resort, and the entire Leptos Calypso Group, have always been avid sponsors and supporters of art and culture. The Coral Beach Hotel & Resort sees over 45 cultural events and performances each year, while we also host an Arts and Crafts Workshop and numerous examples of fine art and traditional arts in our Hotel.
As Gold Hospitality Sponsor of the Pafos 2017 European Capital of Culture, we will provide over 70 nights of accommodation to the Pafos 2017 event. Moreover, we will involve all of our guests, staff and stakeholder network in informing and attending Pafos 2017 European Capital of Culture events.
Fittingly, in 2017 Paphos and the Danish city of Aarhus have both been selected as European Capitals of Culture. The European Union always designates two cities each year. We are proud to be associated with Aarhus, a Danish city with a proud maritime past which also celebrates and reveres its history through the prism of its modern, ever-evolving culture.
Paphos has abundant historical legacy with many wonderful cultural heritage sites. Among them the remains of Aphrodite’s temple, castles, amphitheatres, fortresses, the famous Roman period mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings situated in the UNESCO listed archaeological sites of Kato Pafos.
In ancient times, the first settlement of Pafos was built in Palaepafos (Kouklia village area), and then it was moved west to Nea Pafos (Kato Pafos). In the 1980s Pafos became a major tourist destination, and in 1980 the archaeological sites of Kato Pafos were included on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The Coral Beach Hotel & Resort and the Sentido Thalassa Coral Bay border the Maa-Palaiokastro Mycenean Settlement.
